Meaning:
Fair, white
More info:

Fiona is a feminine variant of the Gaelic/Celtic name Fionn, which is derived from the Gaelic/Celtic word fionn, meaning "fair" or "white."

The Scottish Poet James Macpherson used the name for his 1762 poem "Fingal" and claimed that the name was derived from ancient Gaelic, although he never produced evidence of list. For this reason, the name is typically seen as a feminine variant of the Galiec/Celtic name Fionn. However, the name has more recently been equated to the Scottish Gaelic name Fionnghal, suggesting another possible source for MacPherson's 'Fiona'.

Famous bearers include Irish actress Fiona Shaw, American singer Fiona Apple, and the fictional princess Fiona from the 'Shrek' films.
