Finally....the birth story of Nico Alexander!

Postby Frenchy » Mon Dec 06, 2010 11:02 am

Sorry guys that I haven't posted on this yet. I can't get on this website on my phone and can only get on the internet when I can get to the library. I'm in the process of trying to get internet at home, but it still may be a while. So if you don't see me around for a while, that's why.

Okay, the birth story...

Friday and Saturday before he was born I was having contractions and losing some mucous plug. Sunday, the day he was born, I started off having contractions that morning, but they went away. While I was taking a nap my water broke, at 12:50pm. Contractions started right away at 4-5 minutes apart lasting 40-50 seconds and pretty strong. I called my midwife but since Zephyr's birth was 16 hours long, I didn't think she should come yet. I then had some bright red blood which scared me since I didn't have that with Zephyr. When I called my midwife about she didn't seem concerned but I said she should probably come for my peace of mind. Plus she lives 1.5 hours away. That was around 2:30pm. We called my mom and had her come pick up Zephyr while we tried filling the birthing pool. It was hard cuz Zephyr kept wanting to play in the water so we put him in his crib and he suprisingly played very nicely in there. Its like he knew something was going on. Plus, he kept getting upset when I'd have a contraction so I didn't want him to see anymore.

At this time my contractions stopped for a short time. We figured it was either slowing down or I was going into transition. It was definitely transitin. By time my mom got there at 3:30pm my contractions were coming one on top other and I was getting a bit nervous as my midwife wasn't there yet. I was on all fours trying to slow down the labor while my DH was reading the "Emergency Child Birth" pamphlet my midwife gave us LOL. At this point I wanted to get into the tub so Brian kept filling it. I got in and oh was it nice. But right away I felt pushy and told Brian the baby was coming. Baby came out pretty fast, my body actually did most of the pushing on its own. A couple times I told Brian to stop pulling, which he wasn't, it was just my body pushing. So Brian got in the tub and his head came out and one push later his body was out. Brian was scared as the baby was purple but he pinked up pretty fast. My midwife says thats a pretty normal color for when they are first out especially coming out so fast. I was in the tub maybe 20 at most. He was born at 4:42pm. 13 minutes later my midwife showed up.

No complications, no trouble really. My midwife says when they come fast she's usually not worried. Gotta run, babys crying.

Congratulations! Sounds like a great experience :)

Out of curiosity, why did you change your boy name? Did he just look like a Nico or did you decide you didn't like Jude as much?

Oh yeah, a couple days before he was born we kinda decided we didnt like thename as much. When he was born he definitely didnt look like a Jude. He was Kellan for a little bit and we still liked Asher, but ultimately we felt Nico fit the best.

Aww Congratulations! What a great story! My cousin also was planning a home birth and after having the midwife there for a false labor earlier in the week, they delayed calling her and her husband ended up delivering their baby.

Wow! Scary that your midwife didn't get there in time, but it sounds like you and your husband did a great job! Congratulations! I really like the name Nico. :D

It was scary but I actually felt so much more calm and alert than I did for Zephyrs birth. Maybe cuz I was doing it on my own. I think it would have been much more scarier if it was my first baby, not knowing if everything was "normal" or not. I know my DH was shaking after words.

WOW! What a story. You are so brave! I can't imagine even considering a home birth like that! You rock!

Nico is an awesome name. Very hippy cool. Goes great with Zephyr.

Will you post pictures?
